GIS Certificate Admission Requirements


Certificate in Geographic Information Systems is a professional, graduate level program. The applicants must meet the
following requirements.

Minimum requirements:
A bachelor degree in engineering or natural or social sciences

 
 

or

A two-year (e.g. community college, or other forms of professional schools) degree in engineering or natural or social sciences and minimum GRE score of 1000 (Math and Language) or at least 2 years of professional experiences in relevant fields, such as Computer Science, Engineering, Earth Sciences, Information Science, International Relations, Environmental
Studies, Economics/MBA, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Biology, Public Health, etc.

or

A bachelor degree in arts or humanity or languages and minimum GRE score of 1000 (Math and Language) or at least twoyears of professional experiences in relevant fields, such as Computer Science, Engineering, Earth Sciences, Information Science, International Relations, Environmental Studies, Economics/MBA, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Biology,
Public Health, etc.

Proficiency in English is required for FIU GIS courses and workshops--including noncredit certificates and workshops. International Students whose native language is not English must have received a minimum score of 500 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Students currently in good standing in a graduate program at FIU can apply for a waiver of the above requirements. The waiver application must be approved by the Certificate Coordinate Committee.

Courses that have been used toward a graduate degree may be used to fulfill the requirements of the certificate
program.
